This impeccably bred son of Red Ransom, boasting both an international and an extremely well-credentialed colonial pedigree gives breeders the opportunity to tap into the bloodlines of Casino Prince, Onemorenomore and Just Awesome at an affordable price.

During his brief racing career, the David Hall trained Markane was regarded as a speedster and showed early potential with a close second in the Listed MRC Debutante Stakes as a 2 YO behind Scaredee Cat (NZ). However, following a lengthy spell, he was retired to stud at Glen Avon Stud in Queensland after only five race starts.

Markane, since entering stud, has produced two stakes horses, Spot On Target and Marking Time, as well as laying claim to the enviable statistic of having just under 50% runners to winners. His half-brother, Just Awesome which also stood at Glen Avon Stud before his untimely death, had 81% runners to winners. Markane’s progeny have sold well at yearling sales with a colt from Merry Road selling for $34,000 at the recent Magic Millions QTIS Sale at the Gold Coast.

Markane’s dam, Kew Gardens, with an amazing one page pedigree, was stakes placed in France before being retired to stud in Australia and during her breeding career, produced 7 winners (2 stakes winners and 3 stakes placed) including Palia (dam of Onemorenomore and Dr Green), Just Awesome, Lady Capel (dam of Casino Prince, Tagus, Lord Of The Land and Metallurgical), and last but not least Mrs Squillionaire, the dam of Hong Kong multiple Group winner, Green Birdie. Casino Prince is the sire of the talented youngster All Too Hard, a half-brother to Black Caviar.

Markane will stand at Banchory for the 2012 season alongside promising young sire Seidnazar (Rory’s Jester x Dangerous Seam) giving breeders in Queensland the opportunity to invest in the future.

The decision by the TBQA Committee in consultation with the Magic Millions to reduce the numbers sold over the two day sale coupled with the revised structure of the QTIS format extending the increased prizemoney and bonus races to three year olds encouraged buyers to spend up at the QTIS Sale held at the Magic Millions complex at the Gold Coast last week.

Buyers were present from interstate, New Zealand and Asia but most lots went under the hammer to Queensland owners and trainers. Toowoomba trainer, Tony Gollan, in partnership with Cameron Cooke was the most active buyer at the sale purchasing 14 yearlings for more than $500,000. Tony is about to relocate to on course stables at Eagle Farm. Gold Coast trainers Bryan Guy, Bruce Hill and Heinrich Bloodstock bought a number of lots whilst Kelly Schweida and Pat Duff were amongst Brisbane trainers buying multiple lots. Roy Chillemi, Bill Reid, Garnett Taylor and Lyle Rowe were part of a strong buying bench from North and Central Queensland.

This year, Glenlogan Park Stud again led the charge with the largest number of yearlings catalogued in the sale, represented in the main by their showpiece stallions Show a Heart and Jet Spur as well as first season sire Real Saga. Lyndhurst, Raheen, Oaklands and Eureka Studs also strongly supported the sale with a number of lots by stud sires Sequalo, Hidden Dragon, Publishing, Ferocity and Red Dazzler.

Superior Thoroughbreds boasted an excellent sale coming a close second behind Glenlogan Park Stud with an average of over $29,000. Scott Colless, the manager of Banchory Stud was widely praised by all who viewed the well-presented draft prepared for the QTIS Sale by Superior Thoroughbreds @ Banchory.

In conclusion, buyers in Queensland affirmed their faith in the breeding industry in this state. The introduction of Breedback several years ago has definately improved the quality of yearlings being offered for sale at Queensland sales and also the quality of horses racing both locally and the raiders which constantly cross the border to head south and take the spoils.

A WINNING DAY FOR KEISER AND KAISER

Last Sunday was a day to remember for Singapore trainer, Theo Keiser, who had one of the best days of his two-year career with a winning treble at Kranji.

History repeated itself when Keiser won the $75,000 Inglis Melbourne Juvenile Stake, the first leg of the Singapore Golden Horseshoe Series for the second time. Last year he won the inaugural race with Kaiser, by Seidnazar (Rory’s Jester), which now stands at Banchory Stud on the Darling Downs in Queensland. Sequalo, another Queensland stallion, standing at Lyndhurst Stud at Warwick produced this year’s winner, Griffin.

Seidnazar’s three-year old son, Kaiser, made up the middle leg of Theo Keiser’s treble, scoring an impressive front running victory against mainly older horses over 1200 metres on the polytrack. This win takes Kaiser, who is equally at home on both grass and artificial surfaces to a prizemoney tally just under S$300,000.

Silent Power, formerly known in New Zealand as Juzchillin, was Seidnazar’s first overseas winner. The Seidnazar gelding, which had struggled to regain his earlier NZ form since arriving in Singapore scored a nice win at healthy odds two days earlier on the turf track at Kranji.

A WINNING WEEK FOR SEIDNAZAR

Seidnazar started 2012 on high note with a win in country NSW on New Year’s Day. This early victory was dulled somewhat as progeny of the stallion continually clocked up a number of minor placings, mainly seconds.

However, last week Seidnazar’s fortunes took a turn for the better with only one unplaced starter from 10 runners. As well as the notable victories of Silent Power and Kaiser in Singapore, there was another winner and six minor placings.

Two or three of Seidnazar’s early winners have returned to work after long absences from the track due to tendon injuries.

Queenslanders have not seen a lot of runners by Seidnazar to date on local tracks. Banchory Thoroughbreds due to the low levels of prizemoney in this state it was an economic necessity to race Seidnazar’s earlier progeny in NSW to take advantage of the lucrative BOBS Scheme. The best is yet to come as Seidnazar has some impressive looking foals on the ground at Banchory.

The $1 million Singapore Golden Horseshoe Series for Australian bred and sold juveniles proved an immediate success at Kranji today when Kaiser impressively won the $75,000 Juvenile Stakes (1000m).

As well as picking up the lion's share of the $75,000 race purse, connections walked away with a $25,000 bonus with Kaiser an eligible runner for the Aussie linked bonus.

Kaiser is trained by his almost namesake Theo Kieser - who spotted and purchased him from October's Magic Millions National Horses in Training Sale at the Gold Coast.

He went to $80,000 to secure the son of Seidnazar from the draft of Kingsportz.

"I knew there wouldn't be a lot of entries for the race and that there was also a $25,000 bonus up for grabs as well as this horse is an Australian bred and purchased at one of the Australian sales," Kieser said.

"All my two-year-olds have come out of Australia and are all here now so we'll see how they come up for some of the other races in the series."

"I went to the (Magic Millions) Ready to Run Sale with the intention of finding something specially for this race and we have come out of it with happy results."

"It was a bit rushed to have him ready in time after I purchased him (in later October)."
"I was worried that he might have been one trial short and he was blowing quite a bit after the race."

"KB gave him a jumpout from the barriers during the week and also thought he might have been a bit underdone."

"I have no doubt that this run will bring him on quite a bit," Kieser summed up.
Kaiser cruised home to win the race by a length and a half in a highly impressive performance.

Totality, the favourite, was second, while Dash for Win was third, a further two and three quarter lengths away.

Winning trainer Theo Kieser is preparing for a trip to Australia where this week he will be hoping to buy a future stable star at the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.

The property, one which Hayes turned into a major arm of a three State breeding empire under the banner of Collingrove, was at that time in financially troubled overseas ownership who had paid out big money to get Rory’s Jester as a sire.

The now deceased Colin Hayes got two jewels when he acquired the farm, one now emerging as one of the Hunter’s most prestigious complexes as Patinack Farm, and Rory’s Jester, a horse he knew very well as he trained him.

A brilliantly bred, showy robust chestnut by the Baguette juvenile speed machine Crown Jester and from a fast stakes winning England bred mare, Rory’s Jester went onto become one of the most outstanding speed sources of modern times. He supplied earners of $50million with the contributors including 662 winners (76 stakes winners,73 others stakes placed) and 100 others placed. His progeny have been successful in 2030 races (143 stakes), second in 1771 races (120 stakes) and third in 1580 (108 stakes).

Rory’s Jester’s prepotency for speed has flowed on spectacularly through his broodmares, producers to date of over 1000 money earners, including 812 winners (2280 wins) and 194 placed. The broodmare earnings are in excess of $52million.

He has had restricted opportunity as a sire of sires, but two who have got good winners are Racer’s Edge (Chatswood stud, Avenel, Vic) and Happy Giggle (Mornmoot, Whittlesea, Vic). Racer’s Edge has had over 270 winners (10 SWS,10 Sps) of 890 races and $14.6million and Happy Giggle’s 192 starters have produced 109 winners and 32 others placed. All Happy Giggle’s runners were got in South Australia and include current 2-year-old Lilgiggleo, a 2.3 lengths winner at Morphettville on May 29 and a head second on the same track on Saturday.

Another Rory’s Jester who has sired good winners has been the Lindsay Park used Real Jester, the sire of Red Pluton (won the Merson Cooper at Sandown), also Red Enzo (won Moonee Valley; second VRC Maribyrnong Trial), Adelaide winners Red Glamour (2yo), Tudor Spirit, Real Belele and Rambuka and Perth winners Sichuan Hero (2yo), Lead Rope (at 2 ad 3), Fun Spice, Blescay, Fairest and Best, Practicallyperfect and Yourcayeye. He has also had winners in South Africa, Malaysia, Singapore and Macau.

Real Jester is a 6-years older brother of a big prospect to be the best Rory’s Jester sire. One of the smartest juveniles produced in the twighlight of his sire’s career, he is Seidnazar and he is now a resident at the historic Banchory stud, a neighbour of the McAlpine’s Eureka stud in the Toowoomba region, after starting off at recently dispersed Riverdene stud, Wagga Wagga, NSW

Retired to stud in 2006, a year he had a modest quality book of 92 mares and achieved 92.0% fertility, Seidnazar has got off to a promising start with his first crop juveniles in the 2009-10.Three that have shown he transmits the Rory’s Jester speed are Derippa (trained at Warwick Farm by Mark Wallace), Moveaseide (Petet Moody, Caulfield) and Nastro Blu (Kevin Kemp, Toowoomba).

Derippa (out of a mare by Grand Lodge) has won one of the top New South Wales country juvenile events, the Wellington Boot, and also at Newcastle (a 900m event by 2.3 lengths) and third and fourth placed in Sydney.

Moveaseide (Marscay) followed up a trial win with an effortless debut win at Cranbourne on June 13 and Nastro Blu (Scenic) has been second at Eagle Farm and Toowoomba (favourite in a field of 13). Another placegetter is New Zealand located Juzchillin (Encosta de Lago), a third at Auckland and Manawatu.

Derippa, Moveaseide and Nastro Blu were all bred by Mary Lee Trivett, owner with husband Richard of Banchory, a horse breeding farm with a century plus history. She was a part owner owner of Seidnazar, one of the best juveniles of his generation. All in stakes, his campaign included a win in the MVRC Lifestyle Stakes, seconds in the MRC Blue Diamond Stakes (16 leading juveniles), Debutant Stakes and VRC Maribyrnong Plate and thirds in the STC Pago Pago Stakes, MRC Blue Diamond Preview and SAJC Dermody Stakes.

Available on a fee of $7,700, Seidnazar can be accessed at Banchory by contacting Mary Lee Trivett on 0408 881 048, (07) 4696 1943, email marylee@banchory.com.au or stud manager Scott Colless 0431 036 130.

Prepared at Caulfield by Peter Moody for the 1000-metre assignment, the 2-year-old gelding from Seidnazar’s first crop turned the event into a one-horse affair, coasting to the line in complete control of his opposition.
As the heavily backed favourite, Moveaseide’s performance was most encouraging. From an outside barrier he was caught wide throughout most of the race, before Luke Nolan took the exciting juvenile to the extreme outside as horse and jockey cruised effortlessly to the line.
Moveaseide is from the Marscay mare Annunciare. He was presented for sale as a weanling but failed to meet his $20,000 reserve and now races for a syndicate of owners put together by his breeder, Mary Lee Trivett.
Moveaseide is the third juvenile by Seidnazar to commence his racing career in very exciting fashion. Already this season, Seidnazar’s ability to pass on inherent early maturing speed has been evident in the precocious race performances of Derippa ($64,880) and Nastro Blu ($21,600). Encouraging reports have been received from other trainers with Seidnazar 2-year-olds in their stables.
Seidnazar has arrived at Banchory on the Darling Downs for his first stud season in Queensland.
